Abstract:

Polymers can self-assemble into hierarchical microstructures with a wide variety of morphologies, which usually show improved mechanical and optical properties relative to general single-period microstructures. Understanding and mastering the formation mechanism are the basis of designing hierarchical microstructures with novel morphologies. Further study on the relationship between hierarchical microstructure and their property can guide the fabrication of multifunctional materials with excellent properties. In the present review, the formation process and mechanism of various hierarchical microstructure are featured, and their mechanical and photoelectric properties are discussed. Finally, the research progress and prospects on polymeric hierarchical microstructure are presented.
