Abstract: Nonpoisonous inorganic pigments have been prepared from natural clay minerals:dolomitie attapulgite, monlmorillonite, and attapulgite. Pigmental colour was measured on the basis of Munsell renotation system. The composition and the framework structure of the pigments have been studied using XRD, EDAX and XPS techniques. The results showed that the ehromophone of the yellow pigments may be ascribed to the sulphur atoms with oxidation number+4 in the framework of the pigments.
