Abstract: In order to change the KNO3-I2 hybrid cycle in hydrogen production from water[1-4] into a pure thermochemical one, a subcycle consisted of equations (4)-(6) replacing theelectrochemical reaction is proposed.Reaction (6) is believed to be easy to conduct becauseof the more small solubility of K2SO4 than that of KI and KHSO4 and the volatility of HI.Reaction (8) is a common one for hydrogen production in many thermochemical cycles.Reaction (7) has been investigated and a process for the reaction and sepsrstion of KNO3 and KHSO4 from the system is demonstrated.
