Abstract: This paper deals with the electrochemical stability of the embedded powder clectrode oftungsten carbide(WC)catalyst. The results show that in acidic electrolytes WC exhibits agood electrochemical stability to hydrogen ionization reaction(HIR)and no oxide wasformed on the electrode surface if the potential was less than 800 mv(vs. D H E). In basicelectrolyte in parallel with hydrogen ionization reaction WC. itself undergoes electrochemicaloxidation. Thus WC catalyst cannot be used in basic electrolyte medium.
