Abstract: A novel electrochemiluminescence (ECL) method with the modified electrode for detecting carbamazepine was established. Firstly, a Nafion-Carbon nanotubes (CNTs)/Ru(bpy)2+3 modified electrode (Nafion-CNT/Ru(bpy)2+3/GCE) was prepared by coating and ion exchange strategy, and was primarily characterized by cyclic voltammetric method and ECL-potential spectrograms. Moreover, this work preliminarily discusses the possible principle for the determination of carbamazepine. In the neutral medium, it is found that a small amount of carbamazepine could significantly heighten the ECL signal of Ru(bpy)2+3. By enhancing the ECL signal, the content of carbamazepine can be quantitatively determined. Under the optimal conditions, a good linear relationship between the enhancing ECL signal and carbamazepine concentration from 3.0×10-9 to 1.0×10-7 mol/L is obtained. The detection limit and relative standard deviation (RSD) are 1.5×10-9 mol/L and 1.9% (c=1.0×10-8 mol/L, n=11), respectively. This method is applied to the detection of carbamazepine in tablets with an average recovery of 102.3%. The results are more satisfactory and the proposed method can be applied to accurate analysis of carbamazepine content in clinical examination.
