Abstract: The effects of the conditioiis of reaction between MoCl5 and n-C7H15COOH on the number of chlorine atorn in MoCl15 substituted by functional group C7H15COO have been studied. The UV-Vis spectra of the exchange products MoCl5 m(n-C7H15COO)m were discussed and assigned. The catalytic activity of the molybdenum catalyst system containing MoCl5 m(n-C7H15COO)m for butadiene polymerization was found to be decreased rapidly with increasing the number of substituted chlorine atoms in MoCl5.

Key words: molybdenum pentachoride, octanoic acid, Ziegler- Natta catalyst, butadiene poly merization
