Abstract: Condensation of β-ionone and 5,6-epoxyl-β-ionone with aromatic aldehydes by sodium carbonate and sodium hydroxide was carried out to afford eight novel ionone-containing chalcones at room temperature for 1～15 min by grinding, and their structures were characterized by 1H NMR, MS, IR and elemental analysis. The effects of substituents, the types and amounts of catalysts on the reaction were studied. The results show that the yield is 87.1%～94.8% when the molar ratio of β-ionone, benzalaldehyde, sodium carbonate and sodium hydroxide is 20∶20∶5∶15, and electron withdrawing group promotes the condensation.
