Abstract: The main criteria for evaluating green catalytic synthesis methods include catalysts, reagents or solvents, reaction conditions, and post-treatment. With the continuous development of green chemistry, water-phase catalysis or solvent-free synthesis shows obvious advantages, and has attracted extensive attention in the synthesis of bis-indolyl methane derivatives. However, there is no review article report on the process of indolyl methane catalytic reaction and the related questions whether to use reagents or solvents. Therefore, this paper reviews the reactions for the synthesis of indolyl methane in the past decade. The purpose is to guide the development of greener and cleaner methods for the synthesis of indolymethane, especially under aqueous and solvent-free catalysis

Key words: Bis(indolyl)methanes, Aqueous catalysis, Solvent-free synthesis
