Abstract: The thermochemical characteristics of the inhibiting action of Na2SeO3 on thegrowth metabolism of four microbes: Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilis, Aerobacter aerogenes and Rhizopus nigricans has been studied by microcalorimetry. It was found that Na2SeO3 ofconcentration less than 10 mg/L had promoting action on the growth of the cells, and that ofmore than this concentration had inhibiting action, which, in addition, varies with the kindsof the microbes.
