Abstract: Some organic reactions such as esterification, acetal and ketal formation, etheration andpreparation of alklene by alcohol dehydration have been first studied using zirconium sul-phophenylphosphonate(ZSPP) as catalyst.ZSPP is simple in operation, easy to work up, andhas no waste acidic liquor to drain off during reactions. The catalyst can be reused andregenerated, it is a promising solid acid catalyst

Key words: zirconium sulphophenylphosphenate, solid acidcatalyst, esterification, etheration, alklene, alcohol dehydration
