Abstract: 12-Tungstophospboric acid on active carbon (HPW/C) prepared by reflux adsorptionwas found to be highly effective for catalytic synthesis of diethyl ether. Under the optim-um conditions the conversion of ethanol and the selectivity of esterification were 96% and 100% respectively. The high activity is attributed to high dispersion of HPW on active carbonwhich results in incrcase of the number of active sites or effective acid sites. The catalystHPW/C is thermostable and HPW does not leak out of the Supports easily.
