Abstract:

Case teaching method is an important teaching method for professional degree graduate students. It plays an important role in promoting students' practical abilities. Based on the physical and chemical properties of substances, the course “Modern Instrument Analysis” is to learn the principles and applications of various analytical instruments. It has the characteristics of difficult theoretical knowledge, strong applicability, and updating frontier knowledge. Applying case teaching method in the teaching of “Modern Instrument Analysis” is positive for improving teaching effectiveness and cultivating students' abilities. This article focused on the teaching process of “Modern Instrumental Analysis” for pharmacy graduate students and discussed the importance of case teaching method in the course teaching process. Original teaching cases were excavated from actual scientific research projects of teachers and organized. Taking the quality standard research of Tenghuang Jiangu Wan as an example, two specific teaching cases based on high performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry technology were developed for the chemical composition analysis, content determination, and fingerprint spectrum research. Targeted learning tasks were designed to deepen students' understanding of the principles of high-performance liquid chromatography, mass spectrometry, and combined techniques, as well as their ability to analyze and process data. The two cases were further applied in the teaching of “Modern Instrument Analysis” at our university. The application of case teaching method in the course teaching process is expected to enhance students' interest in self-directed learning, exercise their ability to analyze and solve problems, improve their professional practical skills to cultivate high-quality applied pharmaceutical professionals.
