Abstract: Hospital acquired infections (HAIs) is a great challenge in modern clinical medicine. It is of great significance to develop effective antibacterial materials for improving medical treatment and people′s health. In this research, chitosan/chlorhexidine acetate composite microspheres (CS/CHXA) are prepared by an emulsifying method. The size and crosslinking degree of the composite microspheres are controlled by regulating the preparation methods and parameters, the loading efficiency and slow release property of chlorhexidine acetate are controlled by changing the compound ratio of chitosan and chlorhexidine acetate, the dosage and time of crosslinking agent. Furthermore, the composite microspheres are added to vinyl acetate-ethylene copolymer emulsion (VAE) to prepare well dispersed emulsion and subsequently coated on the surface of rubber hose, which is expected to achieve long-term antibacterial effect of rubber hose. The prepared VAE/CS/CHXA shows long-term antibacterial properties of rubber hose.
