Abstract: A series of linear carboxy-containing polyaryl ether sulfones (PES) with high molecular weight were synthesized directly by using phenolphthalin as bisohenol monomer. No chemical degradation in macromolecule was observed, which is usually difficult to be avoided in preparing ion-contain-ing polymers by the traditional macromolecular reaction. Synthesis has been carried out conveniently either in acid-form or in salt-form, with a desired degree of earboxylation. The results of DSC deterruination indicated that the Tg of the acid-form of earboxylated PES decreased linearly with the increase of carboxylation degree.
