Abstract: More than twenty borate glasses doped with Sm3+ or again Bi3+ ions have been investi-gated.The strongest fluorescence intensities of Sm3+ ions exhibited when the MmOn wasLi2O or MgO in B2O3-BaO-MmOn (MmOn: Li2O, Na2O, K2O, MgO, CaO, SrO) glass sys-tem.The luminescence emission peaks of Sm3+ ions shifted towards higher wavelengths withthe increase of radius of alkali metal or alkaline-earth metal ions Bi3+ ions sensitize the Sm3+ luminescence by a factor of 1.1~2.3.
