Abstract: The inhibiting effects of 1,3,5-triphenylformazane (TFH) along with 4-substitutednitrobenzene (4SNB) and 4-substituted 1,3-dinitrobenzene (4SDNB)(X = H, CH3, Cl and Br)as inhibitors in radical polymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA) have been investigatedby dilatometric method. The induction period (ti)of polymerization, propagation rate(Rp)of polymerization and the molecular weight (MW) of polymer obtained were examined.Theinhibition efficiency was found to be dependent on the electron nature of the substituentin TFH-4SNB.The electron-withdrawing substituent increased and the electron-donatingsubstituent decreased the ti respectively. The ti was found to be dopend ent on the stericeffect of the substitutuent in TFH-4SDNB systems.
