Abstract: Poly (ethylene oxide) (PEO) macromers with methacrylate end group were synthesizedby anionic polymerization in THF,using potassium tertiary butoxide as an initiator and werecharacterized by VPO,GPC and UV.The values of the number average functionality are around0.90.The graft copolymers of PEO macromer and styrene were prepared and characterized byGPC anb UV.The phase transfer catalysis of these graft copolymers in reactions of phenolor naphthol with epichlorohydrin or β-bromoethyl benzene has deen examined. The yieldsof the products increased with increasing the number of PEO side chains in the graft copo-lymers appreciably and gave rise to 48% and 63% for reaetions of phenol or naphtholwith epichlorohydrin, respectively and more than 60% for that of phenol with β-bromoethylbenzene.
