Esterification of Wood Powder

Abstract

Abstract: The wood powder treated with a mixture of sulfuric-diethylamine-dimethyl sul-foxide(SO₂-DEA-DMSO) can reach a high esterification degree when it is then esterifiedwith a mixture of pyridine and acetic anhydride in the conditions of high temperature, hishquantity of esterification agent and long reaction time.The esterification degree is relativelylow if the wood powder is treated with polyformaldehyde-DMSO(PMO-DMSO ) due to thedecreased activity of hydroxyl groups in cellulose as result of chemical destrustion of ligno-cellulose during solvent treatment.
