Abstract:

In this paper, using three kinds of hexadecane toluene sulfonate synthesized in the laboratory, respectively discussed how the internal factors sucn as branched degree and concentration of the sulfonates and the external factors like the different kinds of fatty alcohol and the concentration of inorganic salt effects on either the minimum alkane carbon number or the interfacial tensions. The results showed that as the branched-degree increased , the minimum number of alkane carbon -nmin increased while the minimum value of interfacial tension decreased. As the concentration increased the value of interfacial tension firstly decreased then increased. The minimum alkane carbon number became bigger as the carbon chain length of the fatty alcohol increased. The inorganic salt influence displayed that the salt concentration increased, the value of interfacial tension rose after the first drop, ultra-low interfacial tension appeared in a suitable salinity scope .

Key words: branched hexadecane toluene sulfonate, the minimum alkane carbon number, interfacial tension
