Abstract: Graft copolymerization of acrylonitrile onto ramie fibers has been carried out withchromic acid as initiator. The effects of the concentrations of chromic acid, AN and H+ aswell as temperature an a time of polymerlzation on the graft ratio, yield of homopolymerhave been examined. The optimum conditions of grafting are: concentration of chromic acid 6 ?10-3 mol/L, of AN 2.0O mol/L, of H+ 0.8 mol/L, temperature 40 C and time 20 h.

Key words: ramie fiber, acrylonitrile, graft copolymerization, chromic acid
