Abstract: The thermograms of four kinds of bacteria:Escherichia coli,Shigella flexmeriserotype 6,Shigella flexmeri serotype x,and Shigella flexmeri serotype y in decoction of cop-tis were recorded by microcalorimetric method. The growth rate constants and generationtimes of the bacteria were calculated. The critical dosage of coptis decoction for restrainingtl、egrowth of the bacteria have been obtained.

Key words: coptis, antibacterial function, microcalorimetry
