ESR STUDIES ON PHOTOOXIDATION AND PHOTODE GRADATION OF POLYETHERSULPHONE

Abstract

Abstract: The oxidation and degradation of polyethersulphone (PES) in UV-light have been stu-died through ESR measurment.Two kinds of radicals, probably ArO^- and ArOO·were foundoriginally in PES with g values of 2.004 and 2.001 respectirely.Upon UV-light irradiationthe contents of the radicals increased and a new signal appeared in the ESR spectrum.Apossible mechanism of oxidation and degradation of PES is proposed.
