Abstract: Critical current densitiy is defined as the minimum value of the current density necessary to start the redox reactions of mercury and supporting electrolyte in oscillopolarogram respectively. The equations of the critical current density have been derived and were found to be characteristic for a given solution. Methods for their measurement and the properties of the critical currents are discussed in this paper. The theoretical results have been confirmed experimentally.
