Abstract: The N-, O-, and S-containing heteroarenes such as pyrrole, furan, and thiophene-based derivatives are fundamental structural motifs in numerous natural products, bioactive compounds, and functional materials. Therefore, methods for effective and straight forward functionalization of this class of molecules would be of great interest. Allylic substitution represents one of the most appealing reactions. In this paper, the developments of allylation and benzylation of heteroarenes are reviewed.

Key words: allylation, benzylation, heteroarenes
