Abstract: Rare earth solid superacid catalyst SO42-/ZrO2-SnO2-Nd2O3 was prepared by deposition-steeping method, characterized by IR, TG-DTA and XRD, and used to synthesize terpinyl acetate, the results show that the catalyst SO42-/ZrO2-SnO2-Nd2O3 has excellent reactivity and reusing ability. Factors influencing the esterification reaction were investigated, and the optimum reaction conditions have been found: the mol ratio between terpineol and acetic anhydride was 1.0∶1.5, the reaction temperature and time were 50 ℃ and 5 h, catalyst quality was 2 % of the terpineol. Under the condition of optimum technology, the conversion of terpineol is about 93%, the content of terpinyl acetate in the product is 87%. The main reason of catalyst deactivation is activate sites were covered by organic materials coming from reacting solution, can regenerate by alcohol washed and then dried at 120℃ for 12h.
