Synthesis of Heat-resistant and Transparent Poly(Ether Sulfone Ether Ketone Ketone)

Abstract: A kind of heat-resistant and transparent poly(ether sulfone ether ketone ketone) (PESEKK) containing cyclohexyl and sulfonyl was prepared by electrophilic substitution condensation polymerization from 4,4'-diphenoxy diphenylsulfone (DPODPS) and cyclohexyl-1,4-dicarboxylchloride (CHDC) with AlCl3 as the catalyst. The experimental results show that the PESEKK resin is amorphous with good thermal properties. The glass transition temperature (Tg) and thermal decomposition temperature (Td) are 204 and 440 ℃, respectively. The resin can be dissolved in dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), N-methyl pyrrolidone (NMP), chloroform (CDCl3) and other organic solvents, and can be coated to prepare highly transparent film. The cut-off wavelength of ultraviolet light transmission of the film is 350 nm and the transmittance is more than 80% in the visible light range. The film has good mechanical properties with a tensile strength of 72 MPa and a tensile modulus of 1.89 GPa.
