Abstract: Copolymerization of ethylene/hexene-1 has been carried out by using a TiCl4/SiO2-MgCl2 catalyst. Results show that the rate of copolymerization is higher than that of ethylene homopolymerization. The phenomenon is explained from the viewpoint of unsteady diffusion kinetics of heterogeneous Ziegler-Natta catalysts. The density of ethylene/hexene-1 copolymer obtained reaches the range of very low density polyethylene. The thermal behavior and sequence length distribution of copolymers have been characterized by DSC and 13C NMR.
