Abstract: The technique of spin trapping and ESR method has been applied to study the reaction of superoxide radicals with pyrimidine bases and nucleoside in the presence of riboflavin and 2-methyl-2-nitrosopropane.The kinds of radicals produced were determined and the mechanism of the reaction was discussed. It is concluded that it is hydroxyl radicals rather than superoxide radicals that react with pyrimidine bases and nucleoside.
