Inclusion Properties of Piroxicam by β-Cyclodextrin and Its Derivatives

Abstract: The inclusion properties of piroxicam(PX) by β-cyclodextrin(β-CD), hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin(HP-β-CD), and sulfobutyl ether-β-cyclodextrin(SBE-β-CD) were studied by fluorescence spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry(DSC) and NMR at different pH. The results showed that the 1∶2.5 inclusion compounds were formed between piroxicam and CDs. Based on the formation constants, which were 2.0×106, 1.8×106, 1.2×106 in neutral media, the inclusion capacity showed the order of SBE-β-CD>HP-β-CD>β-CD.
